Do you participate in Recycling Rewards? If you have City trash service and haven’t signed up yet, go to and start earning rewards every time you recycle!

If you already participate, check out the 11 Philadelphia Schools selected by Recyclebank to raise money for an environmental project through points donations through their Green Schools Program. The program awards schools grant money for student projects that will make a positive environmental impact on their communities. Schools earn money based on point donations made to their project. The Green Schools Program partner, Domtar Corporation will donate an additional $500 to every school that raises at least 50% of their goal.

To encourage Philadelphians to donate their points, Philadelphia Streets Department Commissioner Tolson has provided an incentive so that anyone who donates at least 2,000 points can reserve a 32 gallon recycling bin!

South Philadelphia High School is an urban neighborhood public school in the School District of Philadelphia. Currently, 917 students, grades 9‐12.

Our proposed Green Plan is to create a student-designed arboretum that would enhance currently under-utilized space on the campus. Students will take responsibility for the research, planning, planting and maintenance of the arboretum and will create informational signage that will enable community members to learn about the plants and the project itself. Community members will also be invited to take part in volunteer days in the arboretum. This project will beautify the school’s campus, which is a major landmark in our neighborhood.
