Tree Tendencies
Do you like to mess around in dirt? Ever gotten a thrill out of seeing things sprout and bloom? Simply curious about how the heck Philly street trees can survive amidst all the concrete and pollution, or frankly skeptical about how it’s possible to for trees to earn you and your neighbors money?
You may have heard the phrase “tree tenders” thrown about by the Clean & Green folks and may be wondering what exactly that means. If you’re curious about how street trees survive and thrive in our urban jungle, and are interested in becoming involved in city-wide efforts to green things up, then the Tree Tenders Course run by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society may be the thing for you.

On Tuesday, January 23rd at 7pm in the Fels South Philadelphia Family Center (2407 South Broad Street) the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is holding a public hearing regarding the proposed reauthorization of the Philadelphia Water Department’s (PWD) Clean Water Act pollution permit.

Clean and Green meeting
The Clean and Green Committee will meet on January 22nd from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This meeting will take place at the South Philadelphia Branch of the Free Library, located at Broad and Morris Street.
January General Membership Meeting
January’s General Membership meeting will be on Monday, January 8, 2007 at 7pm in the St. Agnes Continuing Care Center (northwest corner of Broad and McKean).
We’ll recap the busy month of December and welcome the folks from PhillyCarShare for an overview of their innovative and pragmatic model which aims to “maximize the economic, environmental, and social benefits of reduced automobile dependence in the Philadelphia region through community-based car sharing”.
