Last evening at the very well attended (50+) first “EPX Happy Hour” at Paradiso several regular post readers wondered if they were missing any Association news. Well, although we have taken the summer off from our very busy meeting schedules the Board of EPX is still hard at work planning for the near future. Here are a few items in the works. The EPX Membership Committee invites all our members, and those interested in becoming members, to an event at Paradiso Restaurant on Tuesday July 17th from 7-9 p.m.
This “Meet and Greet” will feature wonderful appetizers from Paradiso’s superb menu. In addition to cash bar offerings, Reading Brewery pints will be sold at a reduced cost. So come out and show your civic pride, learn about the hard work of our fine committees and meet your neighbors, old and new, for a drink.
The five dollar cover charge will be donated to EPX.
EPX will soon be wrapping up our first year in existence. Looking at all the neighborhood activities and community building covered by other entries on this web site, we certainly have many good things for which to be proud, and have learned a lot through the process.
One of the areas were we have not been so successful, however has been recruiting block captains. To this end, we’ve designated the Order of the Day for our June General Membership meeting as an opportunity for fostering these much needed volunteers. We have light refreshments and open discussion from the floor regarding the role and need for a healthy and vibrant group of block captains. Whether you’re already a seasoned block captain, interested in becoming one, or simply curious about what block captains do, please come share your hopes and desires for the neighborhood, and how EPX can help, as we steer ourselves through into another year.
The Board of Directors will take this opportunity to listen to members’ concerns in this moderated forum. Bring your ideas for ‘07-’08 and enjoy some tasty baked goods donated by our membership committee. We hope to see you there.
EPX can be proud of the leaps it has made in the first full month of existence! In addition to all the Governance related documents filed and meetings held, our membership, through the work of our committees, has started to become a real presence in the community.
– “Clean and Green” saw forty plus members clean McKean street on 10/21.
– Community Relations hosted Bocce Ball lessons for over a dozen neighbors at the Piazza on Passyunk on 10/25.
– Membership sold thirty tickets to the Cavaliere Memorial Concert at Ss. Neumann-Goretti H.S. on 10/29.
– Public Safety had over twenty people for their inaugural Town Watch walk on 10/30.
– Zoning sent representatives to two Zoning Board Commission hearings.
Congratulations to all the committees and members, if we have done all this in just over seven weeks imagine the possibilities!
