tree plantingPlease join the EPX Beautification/Environment Committee on Saturday, April 16th in planting dozens of street trees in our neighborhood. We will meet at 8:30 am at South Philly High School parking lot (on South Broad Street) where we will organize into teams and then disperse to tree planting locations. The planting should take approximately 3-4 hours.

We will provide a light breakfast and all the tools required (including tree specialists) to get these trees in the ground.

We still need another 20 volunteers, please join us for EPX’s semi-annual community tree planting event. After the planting join your neighbors and have a few drinks and some great Tex-Mex food specials at Adobe Cafe 1919 E. Passyunk Ave!

This planting will be organized in coordination with four other adjacent civic associations, who are combining resources to plant over one hundred trees throughout South Philly.

Please join your neighbors and friends for a presentation by SEPTA Constituent Relations Coordinator for Government Affairs, Wendy Green-Harvey. Ms. Green-Harvey will speak to the Board and members of EPX  on Monday March 7th at our General Membership Meeting. Please plan to attend and hear news regarding the Number 47 transit line, possible return of SEPTA trolley services to South Philadelphia and the “wish-list” for renovations to the SEPTA Substation at 13th & Mifflin!

Our friends at the Cantina Los Caballitos, 1651 E. Passyunk Ave, have invited us to a very special evening. On Tuesday November 9th from 6-8 p.m. Steven Simons, the owner of the Cantina, has graciously offered to donate 10% of  all his proceeds to EPX for our annual Charitable Giving campaign.

EPX has, from our inception, donated a large potion of our income to neighbors in need during the Holiday Season. EPX has filled St. John’s Baptist church’s food bank (13th & Tasker), provided dozens of Thanksgiving dinners for members of the Philadelphia Access Center (PAC 11th & Mifflin) worked with Philadelphia Corporation for the Aging to provide produce baskets to the elderly and at Christmas time has identified three families (one from each Catholic parish in our boundaries)  providing them with gifts and gift cards for everything from supermarkets to toy stores to box stores to pharmacies.

Through the generous donations of our members, our semi-annual fund-raisers and special events, like this Neighborhood Nite, EPX has striven to comply with the charitable component of our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit status.

So even though times are tough, in this economy, come join your friends and neighbors and have a margarita or two, some wonderful nachos etc, etc, and while enjoying yourselves realize that you are also helping the needy in our EPX community.
