Super day folks: congrats on our first Thing!

Felt like summer was here. Kids and dogs and babies and sugar and odds and ends. Head bands and mini-me’s, needlepoint sunglasses cases and gazpacho, plants and pots, clothes and toys and books and kitchen gear. Super swell.

Of possible interest to history buffs and anyone who’s keeping an eagle eye out for news about EPX’s upcoming Spring Thing: in addition to kid’s activities, a flea-market, and the much-promised bake sale, we will be very pleased to welcome Dr. Richard Juliani, professor of sociology at Villanova University, who has just published a book of potential local interest.

In Priest, Parish, and People, Dr. Juliani follows the growth and development of the earliest Italian immigrant community–which grew up around St. Mary Magdalen dePazzi near 8th and Christian, the first Italian parish founded in the country–through its first half century in Philadelphia. The April General Membership meeting will be on Monday, April 2nd at 7pm in the St. Agnes Continuing Care Center (northwest corner of Broad and McKean).

This month, we’ll welcome a representative from the Mayor’s Office on Community Services (MOCS). MOCS “provides enhanced services to low-income residents of the City of Philadelphia. Established in 1965, MOCS is active in neighborhood transformation, children’s advocacy and focused on improving the quality of life and services to those individuals impacted by poverty.” (from MOCS website)
