Last evening at the very well attended (50+) first “EPX Happy Hour” at Paradiso several regular post readers wondered if they were missing any Association news. Well, although we have taken the summer off from our very busy meeting schedules the Board of EPX is still hard at work planning for the near future. Here are a few items in the works. The EPX Membership Committee invites all our members, and those interested in becoming members, to an event at Paradiso Restaurant on Tuesday July 17th from 7-9 p.m.

This “Meet and Greet” will feature wonderful appetizers from Paradiso’s superb menu. In addition to cash bar offerings, Reading Brewery pints will be sold at a reduced cost. So come out and show your civic pride, learn about the hard work of our fine committees and meet your neighbors, old and new, for a drink.

The five dollar cover charge will be donated to EPX.

a TREE!?Many of you returned our sign-up flyer to express interest in receiving a free street tree. With the first round of plantings completed some of you have already received your tree. (Huzzah!) Others will be included in the next round of plantings that will take place this fall. We appreciate your contribution to “greening” the neighborhood and hope you enjoy your tree.

Since proper care is crucial to the health of your new (or long-standing!) tree, below is a link to a flyer courtesy of EPX, with information provided by Fairmount Park, Philadelphia’s Park System, to assist you with that responsibility. Also remember, for the safety of your neighbors and the cleanliness of our neighborhood, please keep the tree leaves swept off of the sidewalk and streets – just as you would other litter.

At least two residents have expressed concerns about 1726 S. 13th Street (13th and Castle Avenue). It appears that what is being constructed may not be a single-family dwelling. I called L & I today and was told that I had to call another number and file a complaint, which I did. After the complaint is filed, the inspector assigned to that property has 10 business days to go out to the property and see if the construction is in accordance with the plans and permits. I was not able to get any clear answers about what would be done if what was being done was in violation of the permits/plans. I will try to find out, and I will keep you updated.
