EPX has been awarded a 2008-2009 Philadelphia Activities Fund (PAF) grant in the amount of $3,000.00 dollars. This is not the maximum amount of $6,500.00 an entity may request BUT it is an increase over last year by $500.00.
This money will be used primarily for office equipment, with perhaps a small amount set aside for other office related expenses including BUT NOT limited to safety.

Yes, neighbors it’s hard to believe that your civic association is turning two! Thursday September 11th will see the second anniversary of the corporate founding of EPX and to mark the occasion we will be having a combined celebration! Join together with fellow EPX-ers at Le Virtu Restaurante 1927 E. Passyunk Ave. (www.levirtu.com) for a casual evening of “wining and dining” on the patio, under the stars starting at 7: 00 p.m. – the cover charge will be $20.00 per person. Plan to reserve or buy your tickets at the September 8th General Membership meeting.
BUT, before you wander over to the party, stop by the EPX Corporate office grand opening! The bungalow at 1940 S. 13th street has passed through some minor zoning variance and some major renovations and will open to the public in conjunction with our anniversary. Pop by to check out the renovations, see the art-work and greenery, and the space where most EPX committee meetings will be held and our records will be kept. Senator Fumo should be on hand, with other local dignitaries, to “cut the ribbon” at 6:30 p.m. Come sample some free punch and Italian cookies. So, even if you can’t make the party, stop by for the opening. All are welcomed – EXCELSIOR!
The September EPX Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday September 15th from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
This meeting will take place at the EPX Office located at 1940 S. 13th Street.
July 2008 saw the next step in EPX opening our corporate office. EPX has had access to the space for several months and signed a contract in May leasing the property for $1.00 a month. This very generous arrangement is courtesy of the owner Senator Vincent J. Fumo, who also spent thousands of dollars repairing and upgrading the roof, electric, plumbing and masonry.
The interior had some clean-up and clean-out issues being vacant for some 17 years, BUT a little old-fashioned kitchen sense and elbow grease and the contractors started their work! Next up wall repair, painting and new ceiling and flooring which began today.
Followed by some “new-to-us” furniture donations and “left-over” art from both the auction and the flea market and we are set to role! New awning with EPX signage and some small bureaucratic paper filing, barring no other snafus, will see EPX opening our office in conjunction with the association’s second anniversary celebrations!
Special thanks, in addition to our good friend Senator Fumo, to our other friends at local bank branches; Beneficial, Conestoga and St. Edmond’s for renovation funding! Special appreciation to an anonymous friend who may be footing the awning-sign bill!
EPX has been a nonprofit 501(c) (3) for over a year now and as a charitable institution people may make tax deductible contributions to our treasury. Now EPX may also make purchases without paying PA sales tax. EPX has received written confirmation that, retroactively to February 6, 2008, our application for PA State Sales Tax exemption has been approved. Now EPX members will be able to purchase materials for the association’s purposes using funds from our coffers and not have to pay any sales tax. EPX can now be considered “fully incorporated” having all our Governance documents in place; Constitution/Bylaws, State Incorporation, Published Legal Notices, Federal Non-Profit and State Sales Tax Exemption completed and approved.
The Board of Directors of EPX would like to thank our great new friends at the St. Edmond’s Federal Savings Bank for a very generous donation of $1500.00. J. Christopher Jacobsen, Executive V.P. and Chief Operating Officer along with East Passyunk Ave. Branch Manager, William Fahringer have gone out of their way to lend financial and neighborly support to EPX efforts regarding our proposed office space at 1940 S. 13th Street. Chris and Bill will be visiting EPX at our September General Membership meeting, yet they have given us the check in advance!!! St. Edmond’s promises quite the presentation, but in the meantime take a moment, over the summer to drop by the St. Edmond’s Passyunk branch. The Board of Directors of EPX are excited to announce that our good neighbors at Conestoga Bank have awarded us a $1000.00 community grant. These funds will be earmarked for sustainability and operating expenses geared towards opening an EPX Corporate Office.
