Walk Score has awarded Philadelphia the honor of the 5th most “Walkable” city in America. EPX, and our immediate surrounding area, has been named the 4th most “walkable” neighborhood in Philly!

Walkscore.com is the first large-scale, public access “walkability” index. According to the Washington Post, “Walkscore.com ranks communities nationwide (and soon, globally) based on how many businesses, parks, theaters, schools and other common destinations are within walking distance of any given starting point.”

Walk scores are based on accessible resources in easy walking distance as well as the aesthetic pleasures of strolling through the area.  EPX always knew how lovely it is to live, dine, shop and stroll in our ‘hood, now the world knows too! So now that we know how wonderful it is to ramble through EPX it is the perfect time, with warm weather approaching, to join our Town Watch!  See our calendar for dates and times or attend our March 16th Public Safety meeting at the EPX Office 1940 S. 13th St. at 8:00 p. m.  Excelsior!!!

Join EPX on Sunday October 5th as we sponsor a table at The St. Nicholas Italian Festival! The event, which closes the neighborhood’s Catholic church autumn celebrations, begins at noon with a procession of the saints. The day continues with games, fine food, live music and fireworks ending the event at 9:00 p.m. EPX will staff our table from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m.  Learn the dates and times of our next scheduled clean-ups, membership meetings, town watch walks and other activities.  Sign up as a NEW MEMBER AND BE ENTERED IN TO A FREE RAFFLE, become a Block Captain and get TWO FREE RAFFLE TICKETS! Find out what EPX can do for each of us as a community, and what you can do to help EPX in our efforts to improve our already wonderful neighborhood.  Come out and support your civic association!!!

Yes, neighbors it’s hard to believe that your civic association is turning two! Thursday September 11th will see the second anniversary of the corporate founding of EPX and to mark the occasion we will be having a combined celebration! Join together with fellow EPX-ers at Le Virtu Restaurante 1927 E. Passyunk Ave. (www.levirtu.com) for a casual evening of “wining and dining” on the patio, under the stars starting at 7: 00 p.m. – the cover charge will be $20.00 per person. Plan to reserve or buy your tickets at the September 8th General Membership meeting.

BUT, before you wander over to the party, stop by the EPX Corporate office grand opening! The bungalow at 1940 S. 13th street has passed through some minor zoning variance and some major renovations and will open to the public in conjunction with our anniversary. Pop by to check out the renovations, see the art-work and greenery, and the space where most EPX committee meetings will be held and our records will be kept. Senator Fumo should be on hand, with other local dignitaries, to “cut the ribbon” at 6:30 p.m. Come sample some free punch and Italian cookies. So, even if you can’t make the party, stop by for the opening. All are welcomed – EXCELSIOR!

EPX is thrilled to say our July ‘Meet and Greet’ will be held at Paradiso Restaurant and Wine Bar (1627 East Passyunk Avenue) Thursday July 17th in their upstairs banquet room! EPX returns to this spacious property which has been renovated into a casually-elegant restaurant that features an open-air kitchen with a fresh approach to regional Italian & Mediterranean cooking. Owner Lynn Marie Rinaldi has been a friend, and generous supporter, of EPX since our inception and we are so happy to be welcomed back! This second summer event, sponsored by our membership committee, begins at 7:00 PM. The $10.00 cover includes a lovely array of appetizers and there will be a cash bar. Also, feel free to check out their full menu and wine list at www.paradisophilly.com! (Joseph F. Marino)

Everyone is welcome. Please feel free to pass this onto any of your neighbors, friends, and family that may be interested in attending.
